Most trenching work is invisible once it is finished, which is exactly why it needs doing properly the first time. We dig trenches for stormwater and downpipe connections, sewer and plumbing runs, electrical and communications conduit, irrigation and garden watering, retaining wall drainage, footing trenches and agricultural drainage lines behind walls and under paved areas.

The part that matters most is grade. A stormwater or sewer line that does not hold a consistent fall will pond, silt up and eventually block, so we set out and check grade along the run rather than digging a trench that is merely deep enough. Trench width is matched to what is going in it, because an over-wide trench costs more to dig, more to backfill and compacts worse.

How it goes back is just as important as how it comes out. Pipes get proper bedding rather than being laid on rubble, backfill goes in and gets compacted in layers instead of being pushed in loose, and surfaces are reinstated so you are not left with a settled trench line across the lawn or driveway six months later. Where we cut through concrete we saw-cut clean edges and can repour the section as part of the job.
